Set in rural Denmark in the late 19th century, As in Heaven follows a young girl, Lise, whose world is transformed over the course of a single day.

The film is told through Lise’s perspective, exploring the divide between childhood and the mysterious, often inaccessible world of adults. Spaces, doorways, windows and shadows become part of the visual storytelling, revealing fragments of a reality she cannot yet fully understand.

The visual approach moves between historical realism and a more poetic, subjective world, where dreams, superstition and the natural environment are woven into everyday life. Through subtle shifts in atmosphere, colour and light, the familiar gradually becomes strange, reflecting Lise’s transition from childhood innocence to adult responsibility.
