Jesper Clausen is a Production Designer and Art Director based in Copenhagen, Denmark.

For Jesper, production design is fundamentally about telling stories. Every space, material and object offers an opportunity to contribute to the narrative, reveal character and shape the world of the film. His approach combines a strong understanding of the craft with a curiosity about the relationship between people and their surroundings, often exploring the tension between the familiar and the strange.

His introduction to film design came through an extended apprenticeship with production designer Jette Lehmann. Working closely with her across a range of film projects, he developed a strong foundation in the practical and creative processes of production design and the collaborative work of the art department.

Since then, he has worked as Art Director on feature films with directors including Bille August, Søren Kragh-Jacobsen, Joshua Oppenheimer, Nikolaj Arcel and Frederikke Aspöck. His experience also includes international co-productions, collaborating with crews across different countries and production environments.

His work as Production Designer includes two feature films and one television series. In 2023, he received the Henning Bahs Award for Best Production Design at the Bodil Awards for Du som er i himlen (As in Heaven, 2021), directed by Tea Lindeburg. He was also nominated for a Robert Award by the Danish Film Academy for the film’s production design.

Jesper holds an MA in Design from the Royal Danish Academy.
